Saturn requires an 80286 (IBM AT) or better computer to run.
Saturn is a new concept in computer data storage and retrieval. Data
is recorded in a plain English fashion in "knowledge bases". Retrieval
is by means of plain English questioning. Such as;
Who was Abelard?
Who founded scholastic theology?
What is a cat?
Do cats eat flesh?
Is a pig a mammal?
Where is London?
Do pigs suckle their young?
What does an acrobat do?
Saturn cross references data entries to provide additional information
in response to standard "what is a ....?" questions. This allows brief
data entries to be recorded, but verbose responses made.
The applications for Saturn are numerous, the most obvious being in
education and as a knowledge reference tool, like a computerised
encyclopaedia. To this end the shareware version of Saturn comes with
an encyclopaedic knowledge base called "general.knb". The registered
version of Saturn is accompanied by a number of additional specific
knowledge bases, and the tools to allow the user to create their own
knowledge bases. The ambiguous nature of the English language in
particular means that generalised knowledge bases can often provide
superflous information, hence the need for specific knowledge bases
for specific tasks.
Full instructions on the use of Saturn are recorded in the file
"Saturn.doc",
